Art Deco Rocking & Reclining Armchair in Saffron Velvet with A Tassel Fully Restored
A striking Art Deco rocking and reclining armchair, typical of the period in its beautifully sculptural form, with sweeping semi-circular birch arms and distinctive cloud-shaped detailing. Generously proportioned and exceptionally comfortable, it has a wonderfully deep seat and an elegant, enveloping silhouette.
One of the chair’s most appealing features is its original lever-operated rocking and reclining mechanism. The lever allows the chair to be fixed securely in an upright armchair position, set at a comfortable recline, or released completely to allow it to rock freely. This combination of armchair, recliner and full-motion rocking chair makes it a particularly unusual and versatile piece.
The chair has been fully restored throughout, including all of the exposed woodwork. The birch arms and feet have been carefully restored to bring out the warmth, grain and flowing lines of the timber.
It has been traditionally upholstered and hand stitched, with its deep, generous seat supported by a bed of coil springs for exceptional comfort. It is upholstered in beautiful Linwood Cosmos velvet in Saffron, a rich golden-green velvet which changes subtly with the light and works beautifully with the restored birch. Matching piping and subtle button detailing complete the upholstery. Fabric cuttings are available on request.
Shown in the photographs is a beautiful MacKenzie-Childs decorative tassel, added to complement the saffron velvet and the sculptural form of the chair. The tassel is optional and is available for an additional £100.
