Small Art Deco Wing-Back Recliner Rocking Chair (c.1930s, attributed to Cintique / Firmback Works)

A graceful 1930s Art Deco wing-back armchair, attributed to Cintique (Firmback Works, London) under Jack Cinnamon, combining sculptural form with an ingenious early reclining and rocking mechanism.

Compact in size yet strikingly poised, this chair has beautifully swooping arms and a tall, slender back, giving it an elegance that belies its proportions. Though smaller than many period pieces, it offers remarkable depth and comfort — perfectly balanced to suit both a modern interior and the broader frame of a full-sized sitter.

The secret to its comfort lies in its innovative sprung design: rather than a rigid wooden back, the chair employs an internal network of springs that flex with the sitter, allowing the back to recline gently and creating a subtle rocking motion. The seat is fully sprung, providing deep, even support and exceptional comfort.

Recently reupholstered in luxurious Linwood “Cosmos Velvet” No. 15 Teal, the fabric’s rich tone and soft, lustrous pile accentuate every curve of the chair’s silhouette — from the rolled arms to the gentle flare of the wings. The frame is stamped to the rear leg with the original production number, a quiet mark of its early manufacture and authenticity.

Standing on turned front legs with new polished brass casters, this small but striking chair encapsulates the refinement of British Art Deco comfort — beautifully restored, exquisitely proportioned, and designed to cradle the sitter in effortless ease
